Session 1

Block A: 9:30-10:30



Wacky Science (Isaiah Sullivan) – Let’s have some fun with science! Campers can get messy, explore, and figure out what makes things tick! From making glow in the dark oobleck to experimenting with circuits, campers will get to fully embrace their inner wacky scientist!

 

Gaga for Gaga (Zoey Arongino) – Campers will put their gaga abilities to the test. They will run, jump, dodge, and slap the ball to become victorious in the gaga arena. We will play standard gaga along with any fun variation we can come up with.

 

Magic (Eric Royo) – Poof! The mystery of Magic. Is it real? Is it a trick? Learn how to amaze your friends and family with magic tricks that will leave their jaws dropping. You’ll learn how to make things disappear. Learn card tricks. Learn mysterious coin tricks. At the end of the session we’ll put on a magic show that will impress everyone!

 

Slime Time (Andrea Messaoud) – In this choice class Campers will create all kinds of Slime. Fluffy slime, Sticky slime, Bubbly slime, smelly slime, glittery slime, ice slime, any kind of slime you would like! At the end of the camp session we will invite everyone in the camp community to come to our outdoor lab in Houston and get Slimed! So bring your ponchos and slimy ideas and get ready for an ooey gooey Session!

Session 1

Block B: 10:30-11:30



Recycling and Sculpting (Josh Brand) – Let’s try to make new things out of old things. What can we do with old newspapers, flowers, plastic bags, and scraps of twigs? Many things! We can make serious sculptures, funny sculptures, or a sculptures that might not mean anything at all. Let’s gather up some things and see what can be made. Don’t throw that can away! Turn it into your new robot!

 

Soccer (John Henry) – Did you get inspired watching the World Cup?! Well, in this class campers will practice a variety of engaging drills and games designed to improve soccer skills – from dribbling and passing to shooting and defending. This class is for players of all skill levels, as we will tailor our instruction to meet the needs of each soccer star. Along with the physical activity we will emphasize teamwork and being a good sport. Let’s GOOOO!

 

Sew It (Andrea Messaoud) – Have you ever sewn a bag? a giant pillow? Or maybe just a Stuffy to hug! The possibilities are endless! If you’ve ever wondered how to sew, then this is the choice class for you! Campers will learn how to sew Bookmarks, Bags, Pillows, or anything they can think of. They will choose their own yarn and draw out their own ideas before getting started on each project. At the end of the session we will hold a sewing exhibit of all works completed during the session. If you can think it, then you can Sew It!

 

Chess (David Rigo) – An introduction to the game of chess, we will learn the pieces, piece movement, opening principles, and the concepts of check and checkmate, with the goal of being able to play a full game by the end of the session. Through a combination of demonstration board lessons, interactive mini games, and play we will develop the foundations of chess. We will also work on broader skills such as being a good sport, perseverance, and problem solving. No experience necessary!

Session 1

Block C: 2:30-3:30



Not a Box (Danielle) – In this class inspired by the book, Not A Box!, campers will experience the thrill of dramatic play – when pretend feels so real that it actually becomes real! We will use designs as blueprints for creating 3-D versions of campers’ creations. Campers will use their imaginations and creativity to turn a cardboard box into something amazing they can actually play with and in!

 

Basketball (John Henry Katinas) – In this class we will learn the basics, improve on our skills, and have a lot fun on the basketball court! We’ll practice dribbling, passing, and shooting, as well as play full games and mini-games.

 

Everybody Dance Now (Mary Matheson) – As Whitney Houston says – “I wanna dance with somebody!” In this fun dance/movement class campers will explore all forms of dance. Each day, we will read a story that inspires us to move, listen to different types of music, and most importantly get down and boogie. Campers will leave with a dance to perform, new dance partners, and a great stories to tell. So, if you love fun, friends, and movement, this is the class for you!

 

Soccer Skills (Denzel Johnson) – In Soccer Skills, campers will practice basic soccer techniques. Campers will learn how to take penalty shots, dribble around cones, score with a goalie and without, and more. Class we be centered around age appropriate soccer exercises and activities, as well as matches that focus on teamwork, skill building, and fun!

Session 2

Block A: 9:30-10:30



Kickball (Andrea Messaoud) – Get ready to kick! Campers will run, slide, and jump into kickball. Each day we will swap teams and work on our team communication and problem solving skills. At the end of our session we will have a Kickball Tournament where every camper will be acknowledged by their team members for all the hard work they put into our kickball season.

 

Cardboard Creations (Cheryl Woodley) – Campers will use their big imaginations to transform cardboard, into all sorts of cool crafts, works of art, and whatever else they can think of! Campers will use various tools, tape, glue and other materials to tinker with, and explore the wonders of creating with cardboard!

 

Plan a Planet (Josh Brand) – Let’s invent a new world. A new planet! Maybe it’s a future version of our current earth, or maybe it’s a whole new place, floating in outer space. We will use sculpture, painting, drawing, and maybe even performance to create and explore our imaginary land. What kinds of creatures, plants, sounds, and things will appear in the worlds we invent? What could a new planet be?

 

Backyard Games (John Henry) – Let’s head outside to enjoy the summer weather and play! We will have a ton of games for everyone, from kickball to sharks and minnows. We will run around, practice team work, and maybe even learn some super fun new games!

Session 2

Block B: 10:30-11:30



Basketball (John Henry) –  In this class we will learn the basics, improve on our skills, and have a lot fun on the basketball court! We’ll practice dribbling, passing, and shooting, as well as play full games and mini-games.

 

In the Sky, On the Ground : Bird Watching Adventures (Sara Janoff) – In this class, campers will become ornithologists, studying the birds that live all around us. We will travel outside to meet the birds that live in our neighborhood, and learn the answers to bird realted questions like – why do they have feathers? We will look closely at a variety of feathers and eggs, and explore what various birds eat. Campers will challenge their skills of observation and get connected with the winged wildlife in our area during our bird watching adventures.

 

Karate (Vincent Barile) – An introduction to the basic moves and ideas of Karate. Activities will focus on building strength, flexibility, coordination, and spatial awareness.


Fairy Houses (Andrea Messaoud) – Campers will venture into the world of the fairies to create homes for their fairies out of found objects such as wood, leaves, branches, shells, etc. As they create their intricate fairy homes, we will read stories and learn more about this mystical world. We will then hold a Fairy Ball and introduce our whole camp community to the Fairies of LREI.

Spy School (Alex Checkman) – Do you have what it takes to become a spy? We will learn to create the perfect disguise, come up with secret agent names, write our own secret codes, break ciphers, and go on top secret missions…Sshh!

Session 2

Block C: 2:30-3:30



Myth Busters (Danielle Mazzilli) – Science has a lot in common with magic! It’s fun to watch, it makes “unbelievable” things happen, and sparks our interest and curiosity in a way that few other things do. In this class campers will participate in busting myths through science and exploration of the world around them. Each day of class will focus on “busting a myth” or answering an important question such as – Is the sky really blue? Is yawning contagious? How strong is spaghetti? How does sound travel? Campers will work together to find answers and accept or bust these myths using actual experiments.

 

Basketball Basics (Denzel Johnson) – Basketball players of any level – we are calling you! In Basketball Basics we will work on our basic skills and fundamentals, while having a great time. This is the perfect class for beginners learning and honing new skills, and for more experienced players who are refining and improving on the skills they already have. Our drills and games will center fun, skillbuilding and collaboration.

 

Broadway Moves (Danielle Staropoli) – In this exciting class, campers will explore stylized Jazz movements, body isolations, and complex rhythms to the most popular tunes on Broadway! Emphasis will be placed on performance skills, such as conveying a story through movement, facial expression, and connecting with the audience. Campers will work together to stage, choreograph, and perform their own scenes!

 

Slime and Other Strange Things (David Rigo) – One part science class, one part arts and crafts, and a couple parts good old fashioned mess making! In Slime and Other Strange Things we will make a new substance each day. We will make everything from cloud sand to oobleck to homemade kinetic sand and slime – come mix, create, and play!

 

Puppet Theater (Mary Matheson) – Do you want to live on Sesame Street or Avenue Q? Then, pick a puppet, create a character, develop dialogue, and sing and move to some of your favorite songs. On the final class, we will perform a show for our friends at camp to enjoy. So, join the world of puppetry and become a puppeteer!

Session 3

Block A: 9:30-10:30



Let’s Make a Game Show (Sylvia Jane) – Do you love to watch Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy?? Now is your chance! Campers, inspired by their own favorite game shows, will come together and create their own original show. Campers will play the roles of writers, producers, hosts and contestants!! After honing their expertise, we will invite members of the community to “come on down!” and play our game.

 

Invent a Sport (Josh Brand) – Are sports fun? Sure. Could they be better? Let’s find out! We’ll attempt to invent some new games and play some old favorites, like four-square, basketball, and tag. We’ll see what parts of these familiar games we might want to use our new games? Campers will try out each others’ inventions to see what makes games fun. We will think about and experiment with rules, equipment, durations, and movements in an attempt to come up with the most fun games we can play!

 

Junkyard Games (Danielle Mazzilli) – In this class, inspired by the TV show, Junkyard Games, campers will be presented with tasks to build various machines using only the items they are given. Campers will face challenges, such as making catapults for launching water balloons, building protective cages for eggs to see how high they can be dropped from, and many more! Junkyard Games will ignite campers’ imaginations when they see the endless possibilities of what we can do with commonly found materials.

 

Bulbs, Buds, and Blooms (Bessie McDonough-Thayer) – How does a plant grow and what does it need? We will plant on the rooftop garden: vegetables (lettuce, peas, summer squash) and flowers (pansy, nasturtium, snapdragon, etc.), plants you can eat and enjoy. Create the environment for the plant, soil, water, sun, and air; help the plant grow by understanding the science behind it, and explore plants and trees in the surrounding environment. We will also decorate our very own pot, pick the plants and flowers we want to grow, and take them home to enjoy.

Session 3

Block B: 10:30-11:30

Saws, Hammers, and Nails (Adrian Jevicki) – In this woodworking class, campers will be introduced to shop tools and how to safely use them. They will have a chance to explore saws, hammers, and nails to create their very own woodworking projects!

 

Nature Art: Shapes, Silhouettes, and Sun Prints (Josh Brand) – In this class we will gather scraps of plant-life from outside — like leaves and flowers — and use these as materials for making pictures. We will explore one of the oldest forms of photography – the sun print/cyanotype, in order to observe the intricacies of nature and its structures. We will discover how these natural artifacts can be transformed into new things. A leaf, a seed, or a scrap of tree can be turned into a lion, or a lizard, or almost any other thing.

Session 3

Block C: 2:30-3:30

The Magic of Paper (Dana Riebe) – Paper isn’t just for writing and drawing! In this class, campers will be encouraged to use paper and a variety of tools to create whatever they dream up! Campers will also use various papercraft artists as inspiration for their work.

 

Nature and the Found Object (Sara Janoff) – This art class will show campers the creative potential in the natural and everyday treasures all around us—from twigs, seed pods, petals, and leaves to pencil shavings, take-out cups, toilet-paper rolls, and more. Our campers will become little nature artists and make paper-plate birds, leaf bugs, and flower collages. We will forage for materials outside, and around camp, while feeling empowered by the treasures we find and the art we create. To culminate our class, campers will create whimsical self portraits made from natural materials!

 

Little Red Players (Mary Matheson) – Do you like to act? Each day, campers will read and act out a story. Players will work as an inclusive ensemble empowering individuals to collaborate, explore, and make bold performance choices. We will work together to create a performance piece for the camp community to enjoy. So, join the Little Red Players, the show is about to begin!

 

Tag Games (TBD) – Get active and have fun in Tag Games!! Campers will enjoy chasing one another in old classics such as All-Is-It, Fishy-Fishy, and Ship to Shore. Tag Games will provide a perfect space for active kids to exercise while also giving more reserved children a space to get out of their comfort zone. Games will help garner skills in teamwork and trying new things, giving campers a unique, fun and enlightening experience!
