Session 1

Block A: 10:30-11:30

Shadow Dance (Danielle Staropoli) In this outdoor dance class we will explore the unique shadows we can make as we bend and stretch our bodies. Inspired by Pilobolus, we will work together to create large shapes by sharing weight and balancing. By tracing a series of our solo and group silhouettes with chalk, we will spin, leap, and hop through our shadow dance!

Without the Brush (Avery Kutis) No Paint Brush, No Problem: Using any material we can find in and around the camp building, we will make beautiful individual paintings, collages, and even a mural. First, we will go on the hunt for materials, such as leaves, strings, sticks etc. Then campers will get to use these materials for their own creations! For the last class, we will work together using all the materials we collected over the two weeks to create one giant group mural. Campers will practice design and collaboration in this class.

Beginner Chess (David Rigo) In this class students will learn the rules of the game and develop an understanding of opening principles. This is a great class for someone who has never played before.

Games Around the World (Belan Guimaraes Araujo) Grab your passports and let’s travel to Asia, South America and beyond to learn the games of other children around the globe! First, we will hear stories about the games children play in other countries and then we will play them!

Play With Clay (Vanessa Uribe)Get your hands dirty with clay! In this class students will experience the wonder of clay, as they learn technique to make pottery, sculpture, ceramics, and more!

Session 1

Block B: 1:30-2:30

Obstacle Course (Danielle Staropoli) In this exciting class, campers will help design, then dance through a challenging and fun obstacle course. Elements can include marching on a balance beam, swinging on the ropes, and leaping over a giant puddle! Campers will use hand-eye coordination, agility, flexibility, and stamina to accomplish each tricky task along the way!

Open Playground (TBA) Jump, run, and play as we explore a different neighborhood playground for each class.

Art Games (Vanessa Uribe) In this class, we will use our imaginations, get creative, and play! Using collaborative games we will have fun with drawing and painting, using art as communication and language, and making silly and creative works together!

Painting With Light (Andy Webber) Inspired by stained glass windows, we’ll paint and glue cut out colored tissue paper on clear plastic to create artworks that allow light to pass through them. Campers will use their imaginations to transform school windows and explore how light can play with paint and tissue paper.

Shark Week! (Shelby Pirtle) Here’s a class campers can really sink their teeth into…it’s Shark Week! In this class, we will learn all about our oceans’ biggest fish and how they fit into their ecosystems. We will play shark games to get those flippers moving, make shark crafts (including our own shark tooth necklaces!), and learn lots of facts about sharks!

Block A: 10:30-11:30

Collect the Rainbow Scavenger Hunt (Rebecca Saltzman) Everyday, we will focus on ONE color to search for as we adventure around camp. Campers will sketch their colorful item. Red? Maybe it’s an apple in the cafeteria. Yellow? A favorite book in a camper’s homeroom. At the end of the class, campers will have a homemade book of the magical things they found around camp in a rainbow display.

Balloon Games (Danny Tom) Balloons are fun! Campers will have such a great time playing an endless array of games that will engage them both physically and mentally. We will work on hand eye coordination, working with a team, and making up our own balloon games!

Beginner Chess (David Rigo) In this class students will learn the rules of the game and develop an understanding of opening principles. This is a great class for someone who has never played before.

Painting With Light (Andy Webber) Inspired by stained glass windows, we will use paint, glue, and tissue paper to create artworks that allow light to pass through them. Campers will use their imaginations to transform camp windows, and explore how light can play with color.

Session 2

Block B: 1:30-2:30

Stuff It! (Laura Araman) There is nothing like giving a squeeze or a hug to a stuffed animal, squishy toy or lovie. They are there when we need them! Well, think about how special this stuffie, squishy or lovie will be if you designed, built and sewed it yourself. That’s just what you’ll be doing in this class. You’ll be a part of the whole process, deciding what you want to make, and you’ll decide on the shape, the color, the fabric, and just how much stuffing you’ll need to make it just right for you.

Art Games (Vanessa Uribe) In this class, we will use our imaginations, get creative, and play! Using collaborative games we will have fun with drawing and painting, using art as communication and language, and making silly and creative works together!

Open Playground (TBA) Jump, run, and play as we explore a different neighborhood playground for each class.

Session 2

Block C: 2:30-3:30

Pizza Shop (Clara Campos) In this dramatic play/craft class we will make, and run (and play in!) our very own pizza shop! We will create all the things our pizza shop needs including – cardboard pizza ovens and peels, a cash register and money, pizza related art projects, and more! We might even take a short field trip around the corner to a real local pizza shop. We will end the session with a pizza party (with real pizza) and our “Grand Opening” event!

Lego City (Denzel Johnson) Have you ever wanted to create your own city out of LEGOS? During LEGO city we will build our own LEGO cities using our expansive collection of LEGOS and our big imaginations. Come ready to build people, cars, and buildings with all the accessories. We will work individually and as a group.

Let’s Go Fly a Kite! (Shelby Pirtle) It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a…kite! It’s time to get aerodynamic! In this class, campers will learn about the basic physics of kite flying and explore different ways of making kites.  We will then design and create our own kites and finally (you guessed it!) go fly a kite! Kids will take their creativity up up and away and take home their personally designed kites.

Open Playground (TBA) Jump, run, and play as we explore a different neighborhood playground for each class.

Ahoy Matey! (Helen Maeng) Let’s build a boat! Let’s build a paper boat, and one made of plastic, and one made of marshmallows! If you can think it, we will try it. The only catch is, it has to float! Which materials float, and which ones sink? Together we will experiment with different materials and work together to build that passes the float test.

Balloon Games (Danny Tom) Balloons are fun! Campers will have such a great time playing an endless array of games that will engage them both physically and mentally. We will work on hand eye coordination, working with a team, and making up our own balloon games!

Session 3

Block C: 2:30-3:30

Worms, Worms, Worms! (Sara Janoff) Worms, Worms, Worms! This choice class is all about an important creepy-crawly creature, the worm! Campers will become scientists, investigating worms and answering important worm queries such as: “Do worms sleep? Do worms have noses? What do worms do for us, anyway?” Campers will get to explore red-wiggler worms using their senses of sight and touch. They will learn how to use a variety of scientific tools like magnifying glasses, rulers, and flashlights. We will develop our observation skills, critical thinking skills, and our appreciation for Earth’s living things.

What’s in the Box? ( Denzel Johnson) Surprise it’s..?!?! In this class, campers will be challenged with not knowing what their materials will be beforehand. Campers will come into class and be each given a box with four different crafting supplies. They will then be challenged to make something, anything that they want using those items. Campers will be able to work individually and really focus on creating something special.

Puppet Show (Vivian Yang) In this class, we will use puppets to bring stories to life! Campers will work together to present a story using the puppets, props and scenery they create. Materials will include felt, googly eyes, yarn, fabric, buttons (and more!) to create their characters. They will then go to work on their puppet stage backdrops. At the end of the session, campers will perform their puppet shows for their camp friends.
