Fives Choice Class Season Overview


Choice Classes meet Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for an hour. Full Day Fives select one class from Block A, B and C.

Session 1
Block A: 10:30-11:30
Coloring Outside the Lines (Dana Riebe) – In this open-ended class, campers will be encouraged to “break the rules” with their artwork. Using both “The Beautiful Oops”, and the works of various mixed media and recycled material artists as foundational material, campers will explore sides of their artistry that they may not have seen before.
“Campfire” Sing-A-Long (Jackie Coraci) – Come gather around! In this music centered class campers will sit, dance, and sing together while enjoying some of our favorite songs. Campers will explore different instruments, make up our their silly lyrics, and play all sorts of musical games. This will be a fun, creative, relaxed environment where children can participate in whatever way feels best in that moment. Come play, sing and move with us!
Circus, Circus (Nora Woolley) – Step right up! In this active and creative class, campers will explore various aspects of what it might be like to be in the circus! Everyone will have a chance to do an incredible acrobatic act, invent a magic trick, discover their clown within, try on their ringleader hat, and even take turns training a lion! The final class will conclude with a spectacular circus performance extravaganza…plus popcorn for our friends!
Session 1
Block B: 1:30-2:30
Animal Art (Lauren Barriocanal) – Let’s get our hands messy and let our imaginations run wild! In this playful art class, campers will turn their own handprints (and other stamping techniques) into adorable wildlife animals like birds, turtles, fish, and more. With a splash of paint and a dash of creativity, we’ll add fun details to bring each creature to life. Campers will head home with a colorful menagerie!
Pizza Shop (Clara Campos) – In this dramatic play/construction art class we will use our imaginations, pizza shop knowledge, and plenty of art materials to design and create our very own pizza shop! We will construct a pizza oven, cash register, menus, and of course paper pizzas with all the toppings. On the last day of the session we will have our Grand Opening and invite other camp groups to come be our customers.
Backyard Team Games (Anna Goldstein) – In this indoor/outdoor active class we will play our favorite team games, learn some new ones, and even develop some of own! We will have a great time running around, working in teams, practicing skills, and playing together!
Session 1
Block C: 2:30-3:30
Camp Craft Store (Sylvia Jane Sackheim) – Are you crafty? Well, this may be the class for you! Friendship bracelets, shrinky-dinks, tie dye, and all the camp classics! You name it, we’ll do it! On the last day, we will set up a stand to display and “sell” our creations to the wider camp community!
Slime Time (David Rigo) – Part science, part art project, Slime Time is for those of us who don’t mind getting a little messy. Experiment with different materials and combinations of ingredients to create fun substances from Oobleck to moon sand to regular old slime. Ever wonder what happens if you mix cloud slime with kinetic sand? Then this is the place for you. Bring your mad scientist vibes and settle in for some stretchy, slimy, silly fun.
Tag, You’re It! (James Miner) – Such a simple concept, but so many fun ways to play. Fishy Fishy, Link-Tag, Blob Tag and many more. Sometimes you’ll need to be fast, other times sneaky. Tag is such a great introduction to physical play; following rules, practicing teamwork and fair play, and making new friends!
Session 2
Block A: 10:30-11:30
Little Red Post Office (Nora Woolley) – In Little Red Post Office campers will create their own camp postal system! We will create letters, postcards and stamps and deliver the mail to camp friends, and anyone else we want! This class will focus on creativity, community, and fun!
Tag Games (Anna Goldstein) – Get active and have fun in Tag Games!! Campers will enjoy chasing one another in old classics such as All-Is-It, Fishy-Fishy, and Ship Shore. This class will provide a great space for active kids to move their bodies, play with friends, and create their very own tag games!
Little Red Cookies (Sara Janoff) – In this choice class, campers will become chefs and learn how to create a variety of different cookie doughs! Using real cooking tools like measuring cups, whisks, hand mixers, and blenders, campers will design, create and bake different types of cookies, experimenting with flavor, color, and shape. At the end of the session, we will open up our very own cookie bakery for the rest of camp to enjoy! The cookies in this class will be egg and dairy free.
Painting Without the Brush (Layla Sanchez) – In this class, campers will paint beautiful works of art. The only catch is – we will not be using paint brushes! Campers will experiment with various tools and materials to see what works best for their paintings. From feathers to pipe cleaners, campers will get as creative as their hearts desire. For the last class of the session, their unique works will be on display in our very own make-shift gallery, so we can see all of the artwork together and admire each other’s creations!
Session 2
Block B: 1:30-2:30
Bubble Trouble (Sara Janoff) – In this class, campers will learn about the science of bubbles with hands-on experiments and projects! We will learn how bubbles are made, how to use different tools to make bubbles of different shapes and sizes, and even a special way to blow bubbles with our hands! We will learn why bubbles pop, and some magic ways we can make bubbles that DON’T! We will challenge ourselves to construct towers with bubbles, make the biggest bubble, & keep bubbles up. Finally, we will create beautiful works of art using bubbles.
Gaga for Gaga (Denzel Johnson) – Let’s play ball!! In this fun, physical ball games class, we will play Gaga, an LREI favorite, and various other fun, active games. Campers will have a safe and fun environment to build teamwork and coordination skills while having a great time!
Clay Creations (Cheryl Woodley) – Campers will use the imagination and creativity to make a variety of clay creations. They will utilize many different clay making techniques to add the appropriate details and texture to their creations. Then they will add color to their clay work and it will be put on display for all to view!
Lego City (Katherine Banos) – Let’s build, create and play! Have you ever wanted to design your own city out of LEGOS? During LEGO city we will build our own LEGO cities using our expansive collection of LEGOS and our big imaginations. Come ready to build people, cars, and buildings with all the accessories. We will work individually and in groups – let’s see where our creativity and building skills take us!
Session 2
Block C: 2:30-3:30
Up in the Sky, Down in the Dirt (Sara Janoff) – In this choice class, campers will discover the nature above our heads and beneath our feet, with a focus on birds and bugs! Using a variety of scientific tools, we will do experiments and investigate soil: what grows there? What lives there? Where does it come from? Campers will plant their own seeds and even get to play with wriggly worms! We will then learn about the feathered friends we share our world with who eat these seeds and worms…birds! We will explore feathers, make bird nests and bird feeders. Through this class, we will learn to appreciate the creatures we share our world with, both above and below!
Paper Pals (Klar Posadas) – In this crafty art class, inspired by paper dolls, campers will use their creativity and imagination to explore paper crafting and fashion! Kids will design paper accessories and clothing pieces to wear, and will then showcase their creations on the “runway” during the final class.

Backyard Games (Katherine Banos) – Campers will get to play a variety of playground classics! Each class will feature multiple physical activities for kids to participate in while building teamwork skills. We’ll play tag and ball games and even develop our own games!
Session 3
Block A: 10:30-11:30
Wildlife Heroes (Sara Janoff) – In Wildlife Heroes, children will learn real-life wildlife rescue techniques in a dramatic play setting. Using plush toys and other props, we will run a wildlife rehabilitation center throughout camp, answering calls of animals that need help and going on adventures to rescue them. We will help to nurse our hurt and sick animals back to health, then release them back into the wild! This class will build our skills of teamwork, our sense of responsibility, and let us explore ways to care for the wildlife we share our world with.
Lego City (Tess Neill) – Let’s build, create and play! Have you ever wanted to design your own city out of LEGOS? Jungle Adventure (Andy Hunter) – In this obstacle course class, campers will jump, swing, and crawl their way a series of exciting jungle adventures! Campers will be presented with various scenarios and quests that they will carry out individually and as a team.
Block B: 1:30-2:30
Super Soccer (Denzel Johnson) – GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! In this soccer class, we will practice passing, shooting, and blocking, while learning about the different positions and even working on some game strategy. Fair play and teamwork will be encouraged when we take the “field” in friendly competition.
Animal Dance Party (Tess Neill) – In this fun and imaginative movement class, we’ll slither like snakes, fly like birds, jump like frogs, and bounce like bunnies! Through fun songs and imaginative play, we will work on our coordination, gross motor skills, and self expression. Each class will include a warm up, simple movement exercises, imaginative games and songs, and plenty of opportunities to dance like our favorite furry friends.
Fairy Homes and Castles (Catalina Cofone Polack) – In this art class, campers will use their imaginations to build fairy homes, castles, and dream houses using cardboard boxes, paint, and plenty of sparkle. First, each child will design their own special fairy or fantasy home. Then, we’ll team up to build a big, magical neighborhood together—because even fairies love having neighbors! Along the way, we’ll decorate, build, and create with friends. At the end of the session, we’ll show off our magical village to the whole camp. Wands, wings, and wonder welcome!
Session 3
Block C: 2:30-3:30
Potion Party (Sara Janoff) – In this class, campers will ignite their sense of magic and wonder by working in a potion shop! Using a variety of materials, we will create different potions. Can we make ones that fizz? Bubble? Glitter? Glow?! Campers will learn scientific properties of different liquids, color mixing, volume, and floating and sinking, while planning and conducting experiments and having an engaging sensory experience! At the end of the session, we will open our very own potion shop for the camp!
Superhero Academy (Klar Posadas) – Superhero Academy is a thrilling class where campers become young heroes by creating their own superpowers, designing costumes, and embarking on exciting missions! Through fun games and activities, kids will learn teamwork, problem-solving, and how to be a true superhero.
Mystery Incorporated (Adam Senack) – In this exciting dramatic play class each meeting time will ask campers to solve a different mystery! On different days we will play different characters and use various props and tools to solve the mystery and figure out what happened?! This class will engage campers’ curiosity, creativity, and ingenuity.
