Eights / Nines Choice Classes: Session 3

Session 3 :  

Eights and Nines take Choice Classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for an hour per class.

2018 Choice Classes Examples (2019 TBA)

Block A: 9:30-10:30

Kickball (TBA) Join us as we play this summertime classic! Campers will learn the rules and practice their kicking, running and fielding skills. Once we have mastered the basics, we will break into teams for some game play, where we will work together while practicing good sportsmanship and having fun.

Masquerade Mania  Annie Perales) In this class, campers will learn everything there is to know about masks! They will learn about mask performance, design, and have the ability to dream up and make their own wearable creations. The class will culminate in a masquerade ball where they can show off their new masks and skills!

Jewelry Making (Morgan Wright)  In this class we will explore a variety of techniques and materials for making jewelry and other wire-working projects. Campers will learn techniques for making earrings, bracelets, rings, and other jewelry; techniques which can also be used to make bookmarks, wire sculptures, pins, keychains, and more. If you like the sound of getting creative with wire, pliers, and beads, then this is the class for you.

Checkmate (David Rigo) Are you ready to take your chess game to the next level? This class will focus on checkmate patterns, and solidifying the concepts of check and checkmate. This is a good class for students who are comfortable with rules of chess.


Block B: 1:30-2:30

Basketball (Ryan Clinesmith) Meet us on the court, where we will hone our passing, shooting and dribbling skills.  Basketball will introduce the basics of fair play and teamwork with an emphasis on equality in competition through easy skill building drills and fun games.

Ready! Aim! Paint! (Cody Rae Knue) Have you ever felt that paintbrushes are just too limiting? Maybe you’ve wondered what it might be like to throw some paint around? Well you’re not the only one! Artists like Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchell and Franz Klein, who found new ways to get paint from the bucket to the canvas, will inspire us. We’ll experiment with filling balloons with paint, spray bottles, building new painting tools, and maybe even dancing to some tunes on our paintings! Don’t worry – smocks will be provided!

Clowning Around! (Annie Perales) Have you ever wanted to join the circus? Now you can! Campers will explore clowning, juggling, and mini acrobatics. The class will culminate in a circus performance for other campers in which we will share our goofy, silly, clown characters.


Block C: 2:30-3:30

Dodgeball Battle Royale! (Woobens Celony)  Get ready for the battle royale, where campers will be playing a new and daring type of dodgeball. Campers will enter the game one at a time and try to be the last one standing. Improve your odds by getting bigger dodgeballs, extra lives, and even setting traps for other players. Gather supplies, forge alliances, build a base, and prepare for the dodgeball experience of your lives!

Ta-Da Tie-Dye! (Cody Rae Knue) Tie-dyeing is a summertime classic! Walk away with a whole new ready-to wear piece of art. We’ll dive into the different ways of creating dyed patterns and designs on fabric using clothespins, rubber bands, and wood blocks similar to the Japanese technique called Shibori.  We’ll experiment with different color combinations and how to use color to enhance our designs, as well as cut and sew our fabric to change its shape.

Art is Everywhere (Zoe Lintzeris) This class would cover ways of seeing and capturing the world with a camera. We would learn different techniques for composing interesting photographs and experiment with different kinds of photos- portraits, nature, cityscape, etc.

Modern Masters (Matt Mahler) Be inspired by the most recognizable artists of the last 150 years in this creative choice class. We will look to artworks by recognizable artists including Picasso, Warhol,  Frida Kahlo to become inspired and then create our own masterpieces using paint, oil pastel, collage, printmaking and even sculpture techniques.

Create Your Own Restaurant (Calla Kennedy) In Create Your Own Restaurant, we learn what it takes to run our own restaurant! Through group activities, cooking projects, and dramatic play, campers will learn the skills needed to run a successful restaurant. Campers will work together to design a menu, learn how to set the table, take an order and serve our fellow campers at our end of class share grand opening. Make your reservations now!
